The People tool gives teachers access to student data points in one simple table that can be used to track student progress and provide help where it's needed.
Access the People tool through the Main menu.
Within the People tool you will see all students enrolled in all courses you teach.
Here you can:
- Use Display options to choose what information to display.
- Email students and observers.
- Filter your students using the funnel (filter) icon.
- Add students to the Clipboard.
- Open the Clipboard tool.
- Navigate to the Communication tool.
Filter your students
Click the funnel (filter) icon to show/hide a menu that allows you to filter by:
- Student name
- Quick list or group of students
- Minimum score and maximum score
- Minimum progress and maximum progress
- Critical students, meaning students who have failed two of their last five submissions or they are failing the course, and/or have 30% or more of gradable items past due.
Student Data
Within the People tool for a specific course, one can see:
- If a student has an IEP or accommodations
- How students are performing against each learning out come.
- Students' current course score.
- Student self-assessment data (using the Heartbeat tool)
- Course Progress (percentage of course material completed).
- Pace and Performance

Within the people tool, one can see students' self-assessments.
Within any course students have the option to self-assess on three categories: understanding, interest, and effort.
- Understanding
- Red = Lost
- Yellow = OK
- Green = Competent
- Blue = Expert
- Interest
- Red = Bored
- Yellow = OK
- Green = Interested
- Blue = Very Interested
- Effort
- Red = Slacking
- Yellow = OK
- Green = Trying
- Blue = 100%
Performance and Pace Indicators
For each course, the People tool provides color coded "dots" that indicate student Performance and Pace. Below is the color key for each.
Performance
This uses a student's overall course score and the student's performance on the five most recent activities to assess how well the student is performing in the course.Echo displays a green, yellow, or red indicator to represent the assessment:

Green - The student's overall score is within the top 75% of passing scores, and none of the students five most recent activities received a below passing score.

Yellow - The student's overall score is within the bottom 25% of passing scores, and/or the student has a below passing score on one of the five most recent activities.
- Red - The student's overall score is below the passing threshold, and/or the student has a below passing score on two or more of the five most recent activities.
Pace
This uses the percentage a student's past due activities to assess how well the student is keeping up in the course. Echo displays a green, yellow, or red indicator to represent the assessment:

Green - Less than 15% of activities are past due.

Yellow - Between 15% and 30% of activities are past due.
- Red - 30% of activities or more are past due.
Tips
- Create groups in Echo to facilitate student collaboration.
- The Clipboard tool enables you to take quick coaching steps from any page in Echo.
