How do I use the Domain tool?

The Domain tool is the default tool that opens when the Admin app is launched.  It is comprised of several tabs that either list elements in the domain (ie. permissions, subscriptions) or provide control panels for managing various aspects of your domain.

Below are descriptions of each tab.

  1. Detail:  Displays information about the domain and provides access to the Domain Settings menus.
     
  2. Subdomains:  For a school, it is likely that the domain won't have any subdomains. Districts domains will have a subdomain for each school that is using Echo. Districts with more than one school may also chose to use a separate domain to hold their parent accounts. Learn more about managing parent accounts. Unless otherwise configured, subdomains inherit many of the properties of their parent domain.  
     
  3. Roles:  Echo allows permission sets, or "roles", to be defined at the domain level.  Roles are broken into two independent types: domain roles and course roles.  Domain roles determine what a user can do in the domain (create a course, create users, change passwords, etc), while course roles define what the user can do inside a course (add content, view the gradebook, enroll students, etc).  There are several default roles already defined that should meet most needs, but it is possible to define a custom role.  Learn more about managing roles.
      
  4. Permissions:  The permissions tab displays a list of users that have been granted permissions in the domain.  Note that students and parents do not need to be granted domain permissions.  Learn more about managing user permissions.
      
  5. Subscribers and Subscriptions:  Echo allows you to configure your domain to share content with other domains.  This is handled through the subscribers (who's subscribed to my domain) and subscriptions (who is my domain subscribed to).  Learn more about subscriptions.  
       
  6. Announcements: Lists the announcements published in your domain.  Learn more about domain announcements?.
       
  7. Resources: List the documents you have stored as resources for your domain.  Learn more about managing domain resources?  
     
  8. Usage:  Provides information on account usage.
  9. Features:  Echo allows advanced features to be turned off in order to make the platform easier to use. Features can be turned on for individual staff members who are ready for more options. Learn more about managing advanced features.   

 

Domain Details

You can review basic information about your domain on the Details tab, including:

  1. Domain Name, Userspace, Domain ID, External ID, and Domain Description.
  2. The Active student summary card uses a pie chart to show how many students are failing, at risk, and succeeding; hover over each section to see the percentages. You can also download enrollment and student information.
  3. The Domain teacher summary lists all teachers in the domain. You can click each name to review their Teacher Dashboard information (which appears in your Admin > Users tool). The colored circles show:
    • Overall Teacher responsiveness in grading activities for each course:
      • Green means you have graded all submitted, gradable items within 2 days or less.
      • Yellow means one or more submitted, gradable items have gone 3 or more days ungraded.
      • Red means one or more submitted, gradable items have gone 6 or more days ungraded.
    • Aggregated Student performance for each course:
      • Green means that, in aggregate, your students are performing above 10% of the minimum grade for the course.
      • Yellow means that, in aggregate, your students have failed in 1 of their last five submissions or they are within 10% of failing the course.
      • Red means that, in aggregate, your students have failed 2 of their last five submissions or they are failing the course.
    • Overall Student pace for each course:
      • Green means that, in aggregate, your students are submitting all gradable items on time or that less than 10% are past due.
      • Yellow means that, in aggregate, your students have 10% or more of gradable items past due.
      • Red means that, in aggregate, your students have 30% or more of gradable items past due.
