This article covers a newly-introduced feature that course authors can use as a guiding structure when creating new courses. And example of this would be an advisory course, where all sections are following the same curriculum that is being developed by a course coordinator.
Step One: Create the template
To create a template you first create a course as you would any other. Use an easily identifiable title (i.e. "NTN High School Template 2019-2020). Configure the course settings with the desired grading periods, learning outcomes, grading scales, and other settings.
Tip: Adjust the template for each school year so that it has the correct grading periods.
Step Two: Add the template to your domain
To add course templates to your domain:
- From the Domain details page, select Domain settings from the vertical menu
3. Scroll to Course templates
4. Click Add under the Template Courses section and provide:
Click in the following fields and provide:
- The Order of appearance if there are multiple templates.
- The template Title.
- The Name and ID of the course you want to use as a template; click the list (browse) icon to choose from available courses.
- Done
Using the Course Template for A New Course
When creating a new course, teachers can select to use the template. To select the template when creating a new course, click on the drop down menu to see the available templates.
Importing Course Template Settings Into Existing Course
To import settings from the course template into an existing course, open the course settings and select the template icon in the upper menu bar.
This will open a menu that allows the user to select the desired elements to be copied from the template.
