Note: Echo has actively supported IMS Global's LTI specification since it was created in 2010. Echo is an IMS-certified LTI 1.1 learning platform, which allows you to access other LTI-certified tools from within Echo.
In 2019, IMS announced that its LTI 1.3 and LTI Advantage specifications, which provide additional functionality and security, would replace the soon-to-be deprecated LTI 1.1 specification. Echo continues to support LTI 1.1, and is also now an IMS-certified platform for LTI 1.3 and LTI Advantage.
Echo allows you to integrate entire domains with LTI tools, so that teachers and other course authors can link to LTI activities.
This article covers how to integrate Echo with Google Assignments.
Google Assignments is an add-on application for learning management systems (LMSs) that helps you distribute, analyze, and grade student work with Google Workspace for Education.
For security, configuring LTI tools requires gathering information from each party to provide to the other, so some parts of the configuration will require you to jump between the LTI provider (Google Assignments in this case) and the LMS (Echo).
Configure the integration in Google Assignments
Google provides directions for setting up Assignments:
- Follow Steps 1-3 in Step 1: Generate a Learning Tools Interoperability (LTI) key and a secret code.
- Follow Steps 1-4 in Set up Assignments in other LMS.
- For Steps 2-3: Use the following Echo help articles:
- Admins: Configure LTI 1.1 tools or Configure LTI 1.3 and LTI Advantage tools (recommended).
- Teachers and other content authors: How do I create activities with Learning Tools Interoperability (LTI 1.1 and 1.3)?
- For Steps 2-3: Use the following Echo help articles:

Follow the steps for the appropriate LTI version: How do I integrate my domain with LTI 1.1 and 1.3 tools (like Turnitin and Google Assignments) with Echo?
