There may be times when it’s necessary to export student grades to a CSV file. This data could be used as a permanent record, as an import file for uploading grades to a student information system, or for doing some analysis on student performance.
There are 2 ways to export grade data. The first is to export grades from the course gradebook. The second, described here, uses the Admin App.
Note: This document references views and actions that are only available to Echo Administrators and staff with Staff+Support access.

Downloading the enrollments report
- Sign in to Echo and open the Admin app.
- On the Admin App home page, click Download enrollments CSV, located below the pie chart.
- Open the downloaded file in Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets.
Note: If you are using Excel, save a copy of the file as an .xlsx workbook so your formatting is kept.
Preparing the report
The report contains many columns. Only the following are needed to review grades. Hide the remaining columns.
| Column | Name in report | Description |
|---|---|---|
| E | user.id | Student's Echo User ID |
| F | user.firstname | Student's first name |
| G | user.lastname | Student's last name |
| J | course.title | Course name |
| K | course.reference | Teacher, as entered in the course setup |
| L | score | Overall course grade as a decimal (0.843 = 84.3%) |
To display grades as percentages, select column L and apply percentage formatting.
Note: The report contains one row for each course a student is enrolled in, so each student appears on several rows.
Filtering and sorting grades
- Select the header row.
- Turn on filters:
- Excel: Data > Filter
- Google Sheets: Data > Create a filter
- Use the filter arrows to create the view you need:
- Students below a grade threshold: on the score column, choose a number filter for "less than" and enter your threshold (for example, 0.7 for 70%).
- All students in one course: filter course.title to the course, then sort score from smallest to largest.
- Students with low grades in several courses: sort by user.lastname, then by score, to group each student's courses together.
Following up on individual students
The export shows overall grades only. To see what is affecting a student's grade, open the student's Performance tab in the Admin App. Search for the student by name or by the User ID in column E.
Note: The report reflects grades at the time it was downloaded. Download a new copy each time you review grades.
Note: This file contains student grade data. Store and share it according to your school's student data policies.
